SUSTAINABLE PHOTOGRAPHY
Our Eco Journey
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PHOTOGRAPHY
Our eco-attitude in action
It’s easy for companies to claim they’re committed to being eco-conscious. But here at JSSP, we’re doing the hard work, with real changes that reduce our carbon footprint and increase the benefits of working with us.
We’ve cut plastic from our packaging
In 2019, we decided to stop delivering school photographs with plastic wraps and film. Instead, we use a recyclable cardboard wrap that not only protects your images but keeps them flat and pristine in transit – whether in the post or in a child’s school bag!
We’re the only school photographer in the UK committed to using 100% recyclable packaging. In fact, the only time we ever use plastic is when we’re reusing packaging that’s been sent to us.
We’re powered by renewable energy
We no longer rely solely on gas to heat our offices and run our equipment. We’ve installed solar panels, which already produce more than 50% of the energy we need on site.
Renewable energy keeps us on the road too. We’ve made a long-term commitment to electric and hybrid vehicles and have already made significant progress across our company fleet.
We work with photographers near your school
Stopping driving the length and breadth of the UK reduces both our mileage and our environmental impact. We’re building trusted teams UK-wide, starting everywhere from our Derbyshire base to the Isle of Wight.
We’re growing the number of photographers we have in each location. So far, you’ll find us in the North, North West, South and South East. And when we travel, we always aim to use a vehicle from our eco-fleet, or take the train.
We plant trees in a conservation area
Lots of companies will tell you they plant trees for every order they receive. We do the same here at JSSP, but we do it differently – planting trees only in a managed and cultivated site here in the UK, where we know trees are needed and can grow well in the right space.
To date, we have over 3,300 trees in our own grove in Dundreggan, near Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands, creating future forests and homes for wildlife.
With your photography proofs, you’ll receive a certificate, printed on recycled paper, showing both pupils and parents that a tree has been planted because you chose JSSP.
Eco-awareness isn’t simply a buzzword we use – it’s an ethos we act on. It’s not always easy to find the most environmentally friendly option, but we rise to the challenge knowing we’re doing what we can to protect the next generation. So when you choose JSSP, you’re doing your bit to look after your pupils’ futures too.
